Wayne Didget Teams, Ponies Advance In Tri-Co Tournament

WAYNE – Second round action continued for the didget and pony Tri-County League youth baseball tournaments to open the week.

Both Wayne didget teams took part in their first action while the Wayne ponies hosted their second game in three days.

From the Summer Sports Complex, #1 Wayne whites hosted #16 Wisner. Wayne 10-runned Wisner, 12-2.

Brody Munter recorded a triple, homerun and run scored while Mason Heikes tripled, drove in a run and scored twice for Wayne. Jaxson Kneifl tripled and scored twice; Adrian Contreras singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored twice; James Birkel singled twice and drove in four runs; Maddux Heithold scored twice as Chase Sturm and Jenner Dorey both scored once.

Munter picked up the win in three innings allowing one run while striking out and walking five batters each. Sturm worked two innings allowing one hit while striking out six batters and walking two. Birkel pitched the final inning striking out two batters and walking one.

#1 Wayne white will next host #9 Tekamah Purple on Wednesday, July 10 at 6 p.m. Tekamah won at #8 Arlington Maroon (10-0) and this will be the first meeting between the two teams this year.

 

The fifth-seeded Wayne blue didgets took on #12 North Bend Whitesoxs. Wayne improved to 12-1 on the season by defeating North Bend 8-5 last night.

Parker Patefield, Jaxon Chase and William Patefield all went 2-for-3 with a RBI for Wayne. Alejandro Archundia added a single and two RBI.

Parker Patefield picked up the win striking out six batters.

#5 Wayne blue will next face the fourth-seeded West Point Patriots at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10. West Point edged #13 Pender Red (5-4) and this will be the first meeting between the two teams this year. If both Wayne teams win tomorrow, it will feature a semi-final Wayne white vs. blue showdown at Logan View.

#3 Schuyler Green 7, #14 West Point Yankees 1 and #6 Pierce 7, #11 Bancroft/Lyons 4; Schuyler will host Pierce Wednesday night.

#7 Howells-Dodge 5, #10 North Bend Blacksoxs 0 and #18 Pender White 9, #2 West Point Twins 8; Howells-Dodge will next face Pender White Wednesday night.

 

During the ponies match-up #3 Wayne entertained #6 Wisner. Wayne edged Wisner 3-0 to advance to the semi-final round in Pender on Wednesday, July 10. Wayne will next face the second-seeded West Point Patriots at 7:45 p.m. West Point topped #7 Pender/BRLD 6-3 and this will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The other semi-final will open at 5:30 p.m. between #1 Pierce blue vs. #4 Oakland-Craig.

Zach McManigal and Yair Alcantara both went 2-for-3 for Wayne. Dom Dominguez and Cooper Zara each added a single.

James Dorcey picked up the win in five innings allowing two hits while striking out 10 batters and walking one. Alcantara worked the final inning striking out one of three batters faced.

 

The fifth-seeded Wakefield pony baseball team saw their season come to an end with a 6-2 loss at Oakland/Craig last night.

 

The 2019 Tri-Co Bronco division will take part in their second round on Tuesday, July 9. #3 Wayne blue will host #14 West Point Patriots while #6 Wayne white will entertain #11 Arlington maroon. If both Wayne teams win, they’ll face each other Thursday night in Wayne.

 

#15 Wakefield will visit #2 Pender Red also this evening.
