Wayne Cross Country Varsity Girls Crowned Norfolk Catholic Champion, Blue Devils Perform Well At Skyview Lake

NORFOLK – After battling the hot temperatures last weekend, the Wayne High girls and boys cross country program dealt with high winds but cooler weather on September 9.

From Skyview Lake in Norfolk, WHS joined several other junior high, junior varsity and varsity teams during the Norfolk Catholic Invite.

The Wayne High girls finished as team champions with 26 points while the Blue Devil boys placed third with 88 points.

Following Wayne’s 26 points to win the girls division, Crofton took second (34), Bloomfield-Wausa placed third (74), O’Neill finished fourth (75) and Oakland-Craig rounded out the top five teams with 78 points.

The Wayne High girls were led by top 10 finishes from sophomores Kyla Krusemark (20:35.22) and Jala Krusemark (20:35.67) in second and third place respectively and senior Laura Hasemann in sixth (21:01.45).

Other varsity results came from freshman Lilyan Hurner (19th – 22:45.60), junior Frantzdie Barner (21st – 22:55.21) and sophomore Olivia Hanson (32nd – 23:54.33).

Jordyn Arens from Crofton won the girls 5k in a time of 19:12.13 among 63 runners.

Norfolk Catholic Invite Varsity Results

Norfolk Catholic won the boys division with 50 points, Bloomfield-Wausa followed in second (82), again Wayne took third (88), Pierce finished fourth (91) and Hartington-Newcastle rounded out the top five teams with 102 points.

The Wayne High boys were led by freshman Drew Miller in fourth place at 17:45.20.

Other results came from sophomore Kasen York (17th – 18:55.36), junior Alex Frank (29th – 19:22.71), senior Ethan McCraney (38th – 19:40.17), junior Mason Ley (44th – 19:55.68), senior Easton Blecke (49th – 20:11.19),

Carson Noecker of Hartington-Newcastle finished first among the 94 runners in a time of 15:01.31.


The Wayne JV girls also placed first as a team with 13 points as the WHS JV boys finished third with 63 points.

Wayne JV girls 5k results among the 18 runners came from freshman Kennasyn Blecke (2nd – 24:41), sophomore Yama Kantai (3rd – 24:45), sophomore Ava Elliot (4th – 25:03), freshman Josie Ley (7th – 25:17), junior Raegan Maas (11th – 28:15) and freshman Sharon Vasquez (14th – 30:08).

Wayne JV boys 5k results among the 52 runners came from freshman Boden Dobbins (4th – 20:32.31), sophomore Zander Liston (14th – 21:52.65), freshman Blake Nelson (19th – 22:14.74), junior Parker Kesting (37th – 24:17.36) and freshman Payton Junck (44th – 25:35.97).

Norfolk Catholic Invite Results

In Junior high action on the approximately 2,000-meter course, the Wayne girls were led by a ninth place finish from eight grader Essynce Owens-Webb (8:00) as well as seventh graders Gracelynn Daniels (57th – 9:28) and Hannah Brogren (61s – 9:46).

The Wayne Junior High boys finished fourth as a team with 67 points and led by eighth grader Cole Zach in second place at 7:05.

Other eight grade results came from Alejandro Archundia (25th – 7:48.44), Lance Brink (37th – 8:04.53), Landen Claussen (39th – 8:06.10), Jenner Dorey (45th – 8:14.98), Camden Hall (46th – 8:15.53), Cale Eischeid (83rd – no time posted) and Landen Sharer (87th – 9:24.66).

Seventh grade results favored Grady Maas (34th – 8:01.49), Braxton Suing (60th – 8:38.75) and Callen Gamble (88th – 9:25.39).

The Wayne High girls and boys cross country program will next host their own invitational on Monday, September 12 starting at 3 p.m.
