Wayne Bronco Travel Team Bounces Back From One-Run Loss, Win Final Two Games

O’NEILL – For the third time this summer the Wayne bronco travel team took part in a weekend competition.

During the O’Neill tourney, Wayne competed in three games over two days before getting rained out of their consolation game.

The broncos first suffered a one-run, 6-5 loss in their opening game against Grand Island but bounced back with a 9-1 win over Columbus Saturday. Wayne then defeated the Blair Grizzlies 12U, 5-1 to improve to 10-1 in tournaments.

From the loss to GI, Wayne was held to just two hits. Alex Rodriguez and Gavin Redden both singled while Kaden Keller, Kaleb Moormeier and Jase Dean all accounted for a RBI.

Devin Anderson pitched three innings allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out four batters and walking three. Gavin Redden worked two innings allowing three runs off three hits while striking out four batters.

 

In the win over Columbus, Wayne tallied 10 hits led by Devin Anderson with two singles and a RBI as Kaleb Moormeier singled twice. Gavin Redden, Calvin Ankeny, Jace Jorgensen and Zander Liston all singled and drove in a run; while Alex Frank and Keller both singled and Rodriguez accounted for a RBI.

Rodriguez picked up the win in three innings allowing an earned run off one hit while striking out four batters and walking two. Gavin Anderson worked two innings striking out one batter and walking two.

 

From the win against Blair, both Devin Anderson and Jace Jorgensen singled and drove in a run for Wayne. Gavin Redden and Alex Frank each had a single as Ankeny and Keller both accounted for a RBI.

Moormeier picked up the win in six innings allowing an earned run off five hits while striking out five batters.

Back to Tri-County league play, the Wayne white didgets and broncos will next visit Pender Red at 6/7:45 p.m. while the blue teams will host Pender White at 6/7:45 p.m. tonight.
