Wayne Bronco Teams Open League Tournament With Home Wins

WAYNE – Both Wayne Youth Baseball Bronco division teams were on the home diamond Monday night to begin postseason play in the Tri County League Tournament.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, Wayne White earned the #7 seed in the Upper Division (top 12 teams) and won 13-3 over #10 Tekamah-Herman while Wayne Blue was tabbed the #3 seed in the Lower Division (bottom eight teams) and 14-4 #6 Emerson-Hubbard.

From the Upper Division game for Wayne White, both teams scored three runs in the first inning. Wayne White then recorded four runs in the second and six more in the third to win 13-3 over Tekamah-Herman. Wayne White improved to 7-4 overall and will next visit #2 Schuyler on Wednesday, June 30.

Wayne White avenged their June 17 loss of 5-4 against Tekamah-Herman earlier this season.

Jenner Dorey singled three times, drove in a run and scored twice; Will Patefield singled, doubled and scored three times while Herwin Bernal singled twice, drove in two runs and scored three times. Dylan Jensen singled, drove in four runs and scored twice; James Birkel singled and drove in two runs; Jackson McMenamin accounted for a RBI and two runs scored as Maddox Heithold scored.

Jensen (49 pitches) secured the win in two innings allowing three earned runs off three hits while striking out four batters and walking three. Patefield (43 pitches) worked the final three innings striking out five batters and walking one.

During the Wayne Blue Lower Division outing, Wayne opened the first inning with eight runs before Emerson-Hubbard scored a run in the second. Up 8-1, Wayne Blue outscored Emerson-Hubbard, 4-3 in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth to win 14-4. Wayne Blue improved to 5-7 overall and will next visit #2 Logan View Gold on Wednesday, June 30.

Wayne Blue also defeated Emerson-Hubbard 10-6 on June 3.

All three hits by Adrian Contreras were doubles to go along with a RBI and two runs scored; Chase Sturm also doubled, drove in three runs and scored while Parker Zara doubled, drove in a run and scored.

Blake Smith singled three times, drove in two runs and scored four times; Alejandro Archundia singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Spencer Moormeier singled twice, drove in a run and scored; Aiden Petersen singled, drove in a run and scored; Karter Hays singled and scored as Reece Ames scored.

Archundia (67 pitches) secured the win in four innings allowing four runs (three earned) off eight hits while striking out eight batters. Contreras (16 pitches) closed out the final inning striking out two batters.

Second round Bronco Upper Division and Lower games will be played on Wednesday, June 30.

 

The Tri County League Pony Division released their bracket Monday evening which is slated to begin on Thursday, July 1. #3 Wayne Blue (8-3) will host #14 Schuyler (1-10) while #4 Wayne White (6-4) will host #13 Bancroft-Lyons (1-10). Wayne Blue defeated Schuyler, 12-4 on June 9 while Wayne White won 15-5 over Bancroft-Lyons on May 26.

 

Tri County Didget teams had until Tuesday, June 29 to make up any games as their Upper and Lower Didget Division brackets will be posted once available as first round games are scheduled for Thursday, July 1.
