Wayne Boys Take Third With Four Champions, Blue Devil Girls T-7th With First And Third Place Finishes

MALCOLM – After splitting a road triangular to begin their 2022 wrestling season, the Wayne High Blue Devils returned to the mat Saturday afternoon for a weekend invite.

From Malcolm Public Schools, WHS joined 15 other teams during the Malcom Invite.

Wayne High placed third as a team with 149.5 points.

Yutan won the invitational with 202 points, followed by Concordia/Douglas County West with 167 points, Wayne took third, the host Malcolm came in fourth with 119.5 points as Elkhorn rounded out the top five teams (110).

Wayne top finishers were Alex Frank (113), Garret Schultz (120), Ashton Munsell (138) and Martin Carrillo (195) all winning their weight class. Will Leseberg (106), Ty Zach (JV-132) and Francisco Jinez De La Rosa (152) all placed fourth; Dakota Spann (182) took fifth; Zachary McManigal (126) and Zander Liston (132) finished sixth; Colton Shepperd (JV-170) and Aiden Liston (170) both came in eighth as Eli Barner (145) and Matthew Kufner-Rodriguez (JV-170) both took 12th.

Other results came from Kasen York (JV-126) going 1-2 while Logan Schafer (285) went 0-2.

 

In the girls division, Wayne High tied for seventh with Malcolm as a team with 35 points among the 12 teams. Renieth Montiel (100) placed first as Jaycee Bruns (126) took third.

 

The Wayne High girls and boys wrestling programs will next be in action on Thursday, January 13 during a road dual at Battle Creek starting at 6 p.m. The Blue Devil boys will also take part in the Schuyler Invite on Saturday, January 15 starting at 9 a.m.
