WAYNE – Following a third-place finish in the 2019 Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout, the Wayne High boys basketball team competed in their first game of 2020.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr high school gymnasium, the Blue Devils entertained Boys Town.

Boys Town held a 30-25 lead at half before the Blue Devils used a 41-31 second half to win 66-61. Wayne is now 6-5 on the season while Boys Town fell to 4-4.

Wayne High was led in scoring by Shea Sweetland with 24 points, Tyrus Eischeid added 16 points and Tanner Walling poured in 13 points.

The Wayne High boys will next visit Norfolk Catholic on Thursday, January 9 at 7:30 p.m. Join Justin Raulston on Big Red Country ‘KTCH’ 104.9 and online at waynedailynews.com for pregame coverage set for 7:15 p.m.

The Blue Devils girls (4-7) will also be on the road this weekend visiting Pierce on Friday, January 10 at 7:45 p.m. Pregame coverage is set for around 7:30 p.m. on Big Red Country.

Both the Wayne girls and boys will play their first doubleheader of 2020 on Saturday, January 11 at Boone Central/Newman Grove.
