Wayne Bowling Teams Split Road Competition, At Home Twice This Week

HARTINGTON – With back-to-back home contests later this week on the Wayne High bowling schedule, the Blue Devil girls and boys teams were both recently on the road.

From Broadway Lanes in Hartington, WHS competed against Hartington-Newcastle on Saturday.

The Wayne boys won 14-7 while the Blue Devil girls suffered a 13-8 loss.

The boys went back and forth in both the individual games. Game one came down to the 10th frame with Calvin Starzl (155) and Brogan Foote (171) winning points and Wayne winning with a total of 715-697. Other scorers in game one were James Dorcey (143), Brooks Kneifl (140) and Shayne Geidner (107).

Game two found the two teams battling all ten frames again. Winning their matches in game two for Wayne were Jacob Anderson (161), James Dorcey (150), Calvin Starzl (145) and Brooks Kneifl (138). Also scoring for Wayne was Brogan Foote (145). Hartington won the total pin fall, 745-739 and pushed the two game score favoring Wayne 9-7.

The Blue Devil boys then bowled better during the Baker games winning both games 157-115 and 169-159.

 

Moving into the girls division, Wayne struggled to find their groove but battled all day. Game one found the two teams back and forth and Wayne winning the pin total 676-632. Winning matches for Wayne were Jersi Jensen (162), Brianna Nissen (147) and Joslyn Johnson (112). Other scorers were Lindsay Niemann (128) and Riley Haschke (127).

Game two found Hartington jumping out on the Blue Devils and pulling out a 660-581 pin total victory. Winning points for Wayne were Jersi Jensen (162) and Brianna Nissen (135). Other scorers were Lindsay Niemann (108), Riley Haschke (92) and Joslyn Johnson / Catherine Rutenbeck (84).

After the two individual matches the two teams were tied 8-8 going into the Baker games.

The two teams battled back and forth through the first two games with both teams having chances to win. Hartington-Newcastle edged Wayne in game one, 107-105 as game two saw Wayne win 124-111. The third and deciding Baker game found HNS getting hot before pulling away to win 164-131.

The Wayne High girls and boys bowling program is back on the home lanes from Wildcat Lanes in Wayne twice this week. WHS will host Howells-Dodge on Thursday, January 13 starting at 4:30 p.m. before welcoming in Boone Central on Friday, January 14 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
