WAYNE – As the road youth baseball games were postponed due to field conditions in Pierce for the white didgets and broncos, the Wayne blues were at home Thursday night.
From the Summer Sports Complex, the Wayne blue didgets and broncos hosted Oakland-Craig Sluggers white.
In the didgets game, Wayne improved to 8-1 (9-1 overall) in tri-county league play by defeating Oakland-Craig Sluggers white 12-2.
William Patefield paced Wayne at the plate with a double, triple and five RBI while Chase Baldwin added a single and double. Jaxson Chase and Chase Nelson both tallied a pair singles.
William Patefield picked up the win striking out seven batters.
During the broncos contest, Wayne took the early 2-1 lead before scoring two more runs in the third to lead 4-1. Oakland-Craig then posted a four-run fifth and held on for the 5-4 victory to improve to 7-0 and sit as the lone undefeated team in the bronco division. The Wayne blues fell to 6-2.
Kaden Keller recorded a single and triple as Alex Frank tallied two singles. Jase Dean and Will Leseberg both singled and drove in a run while Gavin Redden and Carter Wiese both singled.
Three pitchers combined for the loss as Kaden Keller started the opening four innings allowing an earned run off two hits while striking out seven batters and walking four. Dean worked an inning allowing four earned runs off four hits while striking out one batter and walking three as Gavin Redden pitched the final inning striking out two batters and walking one.
The Wayne blue didgets and broncos will next host Pender white at 6/7:45 p.m. on Monday, June 24.
The matchup of the two undefeated teams in didget play, Wayne white and Pierce, will wait until July 1 in Pierce (according to Wayne coach). The bronco game will also be postponed to another date (Not July 1 since Pierce plays the Wayne blue team that night). The Wayne white teams are next in action on Monday, June 24 at Pender red at 6/7:45 p.m.
