WAYNE – After about a week off from competition, the Wayne Blue Bronco youth baseball team hosted the 2021 Tri County League Bronco Lower Division Championship game.
From the Summer Sports Complex, #3 Wayne Blue hosted #5 Bancroft-Lyons Wednesday evening. Wayne Blue finished 15th overall in the Bronco Division, which landed them in the bottom 8 group.
Wayne Blue secured the 20-5 victory over Bancroft-Lyons to finish the season at 7-7 and as Bronco Lower Division Champions. Wayne also defeated #6 Emerson-Hubbard, 14-4 on June 28 and #2 Logan View Gold, 11-6 on June 30.
The Wayne Blue Broncos led early and often with a pair of three-run innings before pouring in 14 during the third inning. Bancroft-Lyons did score five runs in the top of the fourth which favored Wayne Blue, 20-5.
Adrian Contreras doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice while Chase Sturm singled twice, drove in a run and scored three times. Aiden Petersen singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Parker Zara singled, drove in a run and scored; Spencer Moormeier singled and scored; Eric Ricardez accounted for two RBI and a run scored; Alejandro Archundia and Joe Leatherdale both added a RBI and run scored; Karter Hays and Cale Eischeid each tacked on a RBI and two runs scored as Blake Smith and Reece Ames both scored twice.
Sturm (48 pitches) secured the win in three innings striking out five batters and walking two. Petersen (26 pitches) closed out the final inning allowing five runs (four earned) off six hits while walking one batter.

Bronco Upper Division results from Tekamah saw #1 Pender defeat #5 Howells-Dodge, 5-4 and #3 West Point Patriots defeat #2 Schuyler, 10-3. Championship Friday is set for July 9 back in Tekamah with the consolation game between #2 Schuyler and #5 Howells-Dodge and the finals being #1 Pender vs. #3 West Point Patriots.
Both the Upper and Lower Didget Divisions along with the Pony Division of Tri County League Baseball will look to set their final day of competition this evening in the semifinal round.
In Schuyler for the Pony games, #3 Wayne Blue will open with #2 Oakland-Craig at 6 p.m. followed by #5 West Point Patriots vs. #8 Wakefield. Consolation and championship games are scheduled for Saturday, July 10 back in Schuyler. Wayne Blue suffered an 11-6 home loss against Oakland-Craig back on May 23 this summer.
In Bancroft for the Upper Didget Division, #2 Wayne Blue will face #3 Pender at 6 p.m. followed by #5 West Point Patriots vs. #8 Howells-Dodge. Consolation and championship games will be held in Lyons on Saturday.
During the Lower Didget Division, #1 Logan View Blue will host Wakefield while #2 North Bend Black will face #7 Schuyler. Their championship game will be on Saturday at the higher seed.
