Wayne Baseball Records Second Straight 11-1 Decision

WEST POINT – Tuesday evening’s Class B baseball game featured a northeast Nebraska showdown.

From Timmerman Field in West Point, the Blue Devils took part in their second outing against Guardian Angles Central Catholic/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer.

A pair of four-run innings allowed Wayne High to secure their second straight 11-1 victory this week to now sit 13-6 on the season. WHS is on a three-game winning streak while the Patriots fell to 4-8.

WHS used a perfect game from Brooks Kneifl on April 4 to defeat GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer, 1-0 earlier this year.

Both teams scored a run in the first inning and following a scoreless second, WHS posted a four-run third inning to lead 5-1. After neither team scored in the fourth, Wayne High would add single runs in the fifth and sixth before tacking on a four-run seventh to win 11-1. The Blue Devils outhit GACC/Scribner-Snyder/West Point-Beemer, 14-1 as the Patriots committed seven errors compared to two from Wayne.

James Dorcey singled three times, drove in two runs and scored twice while Devin Anderson singled three times, drove in a run and scored three times for Wayne. Brooks Kneifl also extended his extra base hitting streak to four games with a double to go along with two singles and two runs scored.

Kaleb Moormeier singled twice, drove in two runs and scored twice; Toby Braun singled twice and drove in two runs; Jacob Anderson singled; Gavin Redden and Aiden Liston both scored once as Wyatt Heikes accounted for a RBI.

Wyatt Heikes (94 pitches) picked up the victory in five and two-thirds allowing one run off one hit while striking out four batters and walking five. Redden (24 pitches) worked the final inning and a third striking out three batters.

The Wayne High baseball team will close out their home schedule on Thursday, April 28 welcoming in Adams Central. WHS will also visit Platte Valley on Saturday, April 30 and end their regular season on Monday, May 2.
