Walling, Judd Named Mid State All-Conference, Bartos Recognized With Honorable Mention Honor

WAYNE – After making a repeat appearance in the boys state basketball tournament, a trio of Wayne High individuals were recognized among Mid State All-Conference and Honorable Mention.

According to a release from the conference, junior Tanner Walling and sophomore Daniel Judd were listed as All-Conference while junior Brandon Bartos was selected Honorable Mention.

WHS finished the 2020-21 season fourth place in Class C1 with a record of 23-7 following a 60-46 loss to Omaha Concordia in the consolation round. The Blue Devils were playing in their 30th state tournament in program history and made it to the semifinal round for the first time since 2014.

The Blue Devils upset #2 Kearney Catholic, 59-52 in the opening round before falling to C1 runner-up #3 Adams Central, 52-40 in the semi-finals.

Wayne High was crowned Mid State Conference Tournament champions after they edged Pierce, 33-29 on February 6.

Walling paced WHS in scoring with 12.5 ppg, made three-pointers (71-171) and made free throws (72-93) while finishing second in boards (4.1 rpg).

Judd led the team in rebounding with 5.6 rpg, was second in scoring with 9.0 ppg.

Bartos recorded a team-high 71 assists (2.4 apg) as well as 50 steals (1.7 spg) as was third in scoring with 8.6 ppg.

Other conference teams who qualified for state were Pierce in Class C1 who dropped a 51-28 opening round game to the three-time defending state champs of #1 Auburn and #5 Hartington Cedar Catholic who placed fourth in the Class C2 consolation round falling to #6 BRLD, 59-48.
