Wakefield Wrestling Secures Road Wins Against Madison, Ponca

MADISON – Following a weekend invite, the Wakefield wrestling program competed in an early week triangular that was rescheduled due to weather from last week.

From Madison Public Schools, the Dragons welcomed in both Wakefield and Ponca Monday evening.

Wakefield defeated Ponca, 39-30 before the Trojans topped Madison, 36-21.

Ponca began the evening with a 42-24 win over the host, Madison.

In the dual against Ponca, contested match wins for Wakefield saw Mitchell Fischer (182) win by decision (8-4) over Kemper Carlson while Giovani Salcedo (220) won by fall (1:26) over Miguel Balvantin. Wakefield picked up five wins by forfeit (126/138/145/152/285).

Both teams double forfeited (113/120).

Ponca’s contested match wins came from Matt Logue (195) over Christopher Ochoa by fall (1:42) as Grant Sprakel (106) won by fall (3:30) over Samuel Chase. Ponca won three matches by forfeit (132/160/170).

 

During the dual against Madison, the lone contested Wakefield win saw Samuel Chase (113) win by fall (3:19) over Chris Estrada. Wakefield won five matches by forfeit (145/152/170/195/220).

Both teams double forfeited 106/120/160/182.

Madison contested match wins came from Dakota Gullicksen (126) over Franco Tapia by fall (1:22), Dagoberto Gastelum (132) over Kolton Fischer by decision (14-12) and Kolby Johnson (285) over Rylan Weaver by fall (1:51). A Dragon win by forfeit came at 138.

The Wakefield wrestlers will next take their talents to the Lewis and Clark Conference Wrestling Meet hosted by Ponca on Thursday, January 21 starting at 1 p.m.
