O’NEILL – With Junior American legion postseason baseball concluding their area tournaments, senior legion teams will be gearing up for the start of theirs.
Due to some of the Junior American Legion baseball teams qualifying for state a few Senior Legion teams had to pull out of their respective area tournaments.
Since Broken Bow had their Juniors team punch their ticket to state, the five-team Class B5 bracket has been condensed to four senior legion teams from Friday, July 19 – Monday, July 22 (Junior Legion State July 20 – 24).
The top-seed will be Wakefield/Wayne Post 81 with an 18-7 overall record who will open the tourney against #4 Central City at 4:30 p.m. Friday followed by the host #2 O’Neill vs. #3 Columbus Lakeview at 7:15 p.m.
An elimination game will open Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with a winner’s bracket contest to be held at 5:15 p.m. One elimination game will be played again Sunday at 5 p.m. and the Class B5 Senior Legion championship game will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 22.
The Class B Senior Legion State Tournament will be hosted by Gering and be held Saturday, July 27 – Wednesday, July 31.
Other Senior American Legion baseball Tournaments featuring area teams include the Area 1 Tourney hosted by Hartington and Area 2 hosted by Wisner.
The Class C Senior Legion State Tournament will be hosted by Syracuse July 27 – 31.
Class C Area 1 Tourney: Friday, July 19 – Tuesday, July 23
#3 Crofton vs. #4 Ponca at 1 p.m.; followed by #1 Creighton vs. #6 Laurel at 4 p.m. and the host #2 Hartington vs. #5 Randolph at 7 p.m.
Class C Area 2 Tourney: Friday, July 19 – Monday, July 22
#2 Neligh vs. #3 Hooper-Scribner at 5:30 p.m. followed by #1 Pender vs. #4 Wisner-Pilger/Howells-Dodge at 8 p.m. An elimination game and winner’s bracket game will be played Saturday at 5:30/8 p.m.; another elimination game on Sunday at 7 p.m. with the C2 championship game at 7 p.m. Monday
Both Pierce and Tekamah-Herman were scratched from the senior bracket since their Junior team qualified for state this weekend.
