Wakefield Volleyball Splits Road Triangular

RANDOLPH – Following a home loss last week, the Wakefield volleyball team opened a trio of triangular matches over the next seven days.

From Randolph Public Schools, the Cardinals welcomed in both the Trojans and Walthill Tuesday evening.

Wakefield snapped their eight-match losing streak by sweeping Walthill (25-11, 25-12) before falling in three sets to Randolph (25-19, 22-25, 25-19). The Trojans are now 4-13 on the season. From the third match of the night, Randolph sept Walthill, 25-11 and 25-13 to improve to 8-5 as Walthill fell to 2-7.

During the win over Walthill, Daveigh Munter-McAfee and Rachel Borg (three digs) both recorded four kills. Hayden Ekberg, Jordan Metzler (six set assists) and Abby Heimann (10 set assists) all had three kills.

Katie Borg posted a team-high four service aces while finishing with a team leading six digs followed by Heimann’s two aces and one each from Rachel Borg and MaKenna Decker. Heimann and Ekberg also both finished with a block a piece.

From the loss against Randolph, Alex Arenas came away with nine kills and 10 digs followed by Rachel Borg with five kills. Katie Borg led the team in digs with 27; Heimann totaled 13 digs and eight set assists and Metzler tallied 12 set assists and four kills as Ekberg finished with four kills.

Aces came from Rachel Borg, Olivia Donner, Metzler and Arenas all with one. Arenas and Munter-McAfee also recorded a block.

Wakefield will next host their own triangular on Thursday, September 24 with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Wynot coming to town.
