WISNER – Following a couple home matches for the Wakefield volleyball program, the Trojans began a two-day tournament Thursday night.
From Wisner-Pilger High School, Wakefield took part in Pool B of the NEN Jean Groth Volleyball Classic.
Wakefield dropped a three-set match to the host Wisner-Pilger (25-23, 12-25, 22-25) while picking up a sweep in straight sets over West Point-Beemer (25-16, 25-6).
The Trojans are now 2-2 on the season.
The third match of the evening favored Wisner-Pilger over West Point-Beemer (25-17, 25-13).
In the loss against Wisner-Pilger, Daveigh Munter-McAfee recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs followed by Alex Arenas with seven kills and 16 digs while Isabella Andrade also had 14 digs. Jordan Metzler finished with 22 set assists, two kills and eight digs.
Arenas and Andrade both had a service ace while blocks came from Munter-McAfee and Laken Rahn. Alli Brown (three digs), Brianna Martinez (three digs), MaKenna Decker (nine digs) and Ashlyn Riewer also had five digs.
During the victory over West Point-Beemer, Arenas posted six kills and nine digs followed by Brown with five kills and one dig. Jordan Metzler tallied 15 set assists, two kills and two digs.
Andrade led Wakefield in digs with 11, Munter-McAfee had four kills and two digs, Riewer tacked on four digs as Decker and Brown both had one dig.
Brown paced the Trojans with two service aces while Andrade, Arenas, Metzler and Decker all had an ace. Decker and Martinez both recorded a block.
The 2022 NEN Jean Groth Volleyball Classic will continue on Saturday.
