WAKEFIELD – A total of eight matches were held during day one of the Wakefield Volleyball Invite.
From the Main Gym, the host Wakefield Trojans first were swept by Hartington Cedar Catholic (22-25, 15-25) before winning in straight sets over Lyons-Decatur NE (25-19, 25-15).
Wakefield is now 6-4 on the season.
In the loss against Cedar Catholic, Alex Arenas paced Wakefield at the net with four kills and three digs, Isabella Andrade led the team in digs with seven as Jordan Metzler recorded nine assists, five digs and a kill.
Alli Brown added three kills, Daveigh Munter-McAfee tallied three kills and four digs, MaKenna Decker had two kills, Brianna Martinez tacked on a kill and a dig. Ashlyn Riewer also had four digs.
Decker and Brown both posted two service aces each as Munter-McAfee had one ace.
During the sweep over Lyons-Decatur NE, Arenas recorded 11 kills and two digs while Metzler was another top performer with 16 assists, five digs and a kill.
Munter-McAfee tallied four kills and three digs, Brown finished with three kills and two digs as Martinez and Decker (on dig) both had a kill. Andrade tacked on three digs.
Munter-McAfee had five service aces, Arenas with two and Metzler added an ace.
The Wakefield volleyball team will conclude their home invitational on Saturday, September 10 against Pierce opening the morning at 8:30 a.m. in the Main Gym while also playing Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Lutheran High Northeast in the Activity Center and conclude with the final match of the afternoon against Ponca back in the Main Gym.
Day one results in the Main Gym: Hartington Cedar Catholic swept Wakefield (25-22, 25-15); Lutheran High Northeast swept Ponca (28-26, 25-16); Lutheran High Northeast won in three sets over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (23-25, 25-19, 25-21) and Wakefield swept Lyons-Decatur Northeast (25-19, 25-15).
Day one results in the Activity Center: Ponca won in three sets over LCC (25-15, 22-25, 25-15), Pierce swept Hartington Cedar Catholic (25-20, 25-23); Pierce swept Lyons-Decatur Northeast (25-9, 25-13) and Hartington Cedar Catholic swept LCC (25-22, 25-9).
Day two Saturday schedule in the Main Gym: Wakefield vs. Pierce, Pierce vs. Lutheran High Northeast, LCC vs. Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Pierce vs. Ponca, Hartington Cedar Catholic vs. Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Pierce vs. LCC and Wakefield vs. Ponca.
