Wakefield Volleyball Goes 2-1 In Silver Division Bracket Of Jean Groth Volleyball Classic 

PENDER – Silver Division teams of the NEN Jean Groth Volleyball Classic were in action on Saturday in Pender.

Members of the Wakefield Trojan volleyball team played three more matches during day two of the tourney.

After going 1-1 in pool play on Thursday, Wakefield won in three sets over Pender (25-18, 26-28, 25-21), defeated Bancroft-Rosalie in three sets (25-21, 17-25, 25-22) but were swept by Archbishop Bergan (20-25, 24-26).

The Trojans are now 4-3 on the season.

In the three set victory over Pender, Alex Arenas recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs; Daveigh Munter-McAfee (four kills) and Metlzler (five kills) both led the team in digs with 14. Brianna Martinez posted 23 set assists, one dig and one kill.

Isabella Andrade tacked on 12 digs, Alli Brown finished with five kills and four digs, MaKenna Decker had two kills and five digs as Ashlyn Riewer tacked on two digs.

Service aces came from Brown (three), Andrade, Metzler, Decker and Munter-McAfee (two each) and one from Arenas. Munter-McAfee and Brown both had one block.


During the win against Bancroft-Rosalie, Munter-McAfee recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs followed by Arenas with seven kills and 13 digs. Andrade tacked on 12 digs while Metzler tallied 24 set assists and five kills.

Decker added six kills and two digs, Brown and Martinez both had four kills and two digs as Riewer finished with four digs.

Service aces came from Munter-McAfee (two) and one each from Arenas, Brown, Metzler and Decker. Brown also had two blocks (one solo) while Arenas had one block.


From the loss to Archbishop Bergan, Arenas led the Trojans with nine kills and eight digs, Decker followed with eight kills and two digs as Metzler posted a double-double with 18 set assists and 10 digs.

Brown had four kills and a dig, Munter-McAfee tallied a team-high 15 digs and three kills, Martinez finished with a kill and a dig, Riewer tacked on seven digs as Andrade came away with four digs.

Service aces came from Decker and Brown with one each. Arenas and Martinez both had two blocks as Brown added a block.


The Wakefield volleyball team will next host Madison on Tuesday, September 6 before hosting the Wakefield Invite on Thursday, September 8 and Saturday, September 10.
