Wakefield Volleyball Concludes Regular Season With Road Triangular Sweep

WINNEBAGO – After having an 11-match winning streak snapped in the conference finals earlier this week, the Wakefield volleyball team went right back to work closing out the regular season with two more victories.

From Winnebago Public Schools, Wakefield competed in the Winnebago triangular with Homer Thursday evening.

Wakefield picked up wins in straight sets over both Homer (25-12, 25-23) and the host Winnebago (25-11, 25-18).

The Trojans are now 22-9 on the season.

The middle match favored Homer over Winnebago (25-12, 25-22) to improve to 14-15. The host Indians fell to 8-21.

In the win over Homer, Alex Arenas posted a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs followed by Daveigh Munter-McAfee with seven kills and nine digs. Jordan Metzler finished with 28 assists, four digs and two kills as Katie Borg tallied 12 digs.

Alli Brown added six kills and three digs as MaKenna Decker (three digs) and Brianna Martinez (one dig) both had a kill.

Arenas recorded two service aces as other aces came from Isabella Andrade, Munter-McAfee and Decker. Metzler and Decker both added a block.

During the victory against Winnebago, Munter-McAfee recorded seven kills and four digs, Brown added six kills and two digs as Arenas posted five kills and three digs. Metzler tallied 17 assists, four digs and a kill.

Decker tacked on a kill and two digs as other digs came from Borg (four), Andrade (two) and Martinez (one).

Munter-McAfee finished with four services aces, three from Brown, two by Arenas as other aces came from Borg, Andrade and Decker.

The Wakefield volleyball team will next host the C2-4 subdistrict on Monday, October 24. #1 Wakefield will open with #4 Omaha Nation at 5:30 p.m. followed by #2 Pender vs. #3 Homer at 7 p.m. The C2-4 subdistrict finals will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25.
