MADISON – Following a 1-4 start to the season during the 2020 Jean Groth Volleyball Classic, the Wakefield Trojans competed in their first triangular.
From Madison, Wakefield joined Spalding Academy Tuesday night.
Wakefield got right back on the winning track thanks to a pair of road sweep victories. The Trojans won 25-7, 25-12 over Spalding Academy and swept Madison (25-16, 25-22). Wakefield is now 3-4 on the season.
In the victory against Spalding Academy, Rachel Borg recorded nine kills and four digs followed by Jocelyn Weaver with three kills. Aishah Valenzuela tallied a team-high seven digs, Abby Heimann finished with eight set assists as Jordan Metzler had seven assists.
As a team, Wakefield finished with 15 service aces coming from Olivia Donner with six, Katie Borg and Abby Heimann each with four and Jordan Metzler with one.
During the sweep over Madison, Rachel Borg posted 10 kills while Hayden Ekberg followed with seven kills and a solo block. Valenzuela tabbed 10 digs as did Heimann who also had 16 set assists. Metzler finished with five set assists and five kills.
The Trojans also served well totaling eight aces. Metzler had three, Katie Borg (11 digs) and Donner both finished with two and Rachel Borg tallied one.
The Wakefield Trojans will next host their own invitational on Thursday, September 10 and Saturday, September 12.
