STANTON – A northeast Nebraska team saw several individuals shine during meet one of the 2021 track & field season earlier this week.
Wakefield competed in the Stanton Track & Field Invitational on Tuesday battling the wind.
The top performer for the Wakefield girls saw a first place result from Jordan Metzler in the long jump (15’ 4 ¾”). Metzler also took runner-up in the triple jump (33’ 4 ½”) and 300-meter-hurdles (51.26)
Anna Lundahl finished second in the discus (115’ 3”) as the top relay event came from the 4×400-meter relay team placing third (4:46.75).
For the Trojan boys, first place finishes came from Blake Brown in the long jump (22’ 5 ¼”) 100-meter dash (11.07) and 300-meter hurdles (44.69).
Brown’s long jump mark shattered a 66- and 51-year-old record previously set by Gene Carlson (1955) and tied in 1970 by Rich Kline of 21’ 3”.
Justin Erb took second in the 400-meter dash (55.03) and third in the 200-meter dash (23.7). Logan Bokemper was third in the 400-meter dash (56.29), Ryan Anderson also came in third during the 3200-meter run (11:18.6) as the 4×400-meter relay team placed third (3:46.69).
The Wakefield girls and boys track & field team will next compete in the Blue Devil Invite hosted by Wayne on Tuesday, April 6 starting at 1 p.m.
