Wakefield Seniors Use Pair Of Three-Run Innings To Secure First Win Of Season

BATTLE CREEK – After having a home game postponed until this weekend, the Wakefield Post 81 Senior American Legion baseball team took part in a road contest Wednesday evening.

From Battle Creek Park, Post 75 played host to Wakefield.

In the Seniors only contest, Battle Creek opened scoring with a run in the first inning before Wakefield answered with a three-run second inning. Both teams tabbed a run in the third as Wakefield again scored three runs in the fourth. Battle Creek closed out the scoring with a run in the fifth as Wakefield picked up their first win on the season of 7-3. Post 81 improves to 1-4 as Battle Creek falls to 1-2.

Solomon Peitz paced Wakefield at the plate with a single, double and three RBI as Gabe Peitz added a single and two runs scored. Esgar Godinez singled.

Noah Lamprecht picked up the win in six innings (was pulled after facing one batter in the bottom of the seventh due to pitch count) allowing three runs off of 11 hits while striking out two batters, walking one and hitting two. Seth Nuernberger faced the final three batters in the seventh recording two ground-outs and a fly-out.

Bailey McLean posted a three-hit game for Battle Creek with two singles, a double and RBI. Sone Kraft followed with two singles and a RBI as did Wyatt Hamer with a single, double and RBI.

Defensively, Battle Creek committed five errors.

McLean suffered the loss in four innings allowing seven runs off of three hits while striking out eight batters, walking four and hitting three. Kraft closed out the final three innings allowing a hit while striking out five batters and walking two.

The Wakefield Post 81 Seniors are off Thursday and back in action on Friday, June 1 at Wayne Post 43 at 7 p.m. Battle Creek will next visit Pender on Friday.
