Wakefield Seniors Trail Early, Unable To Comeback

WEST POINT – Following a 4th of July cancellation, the Wakefield Post 81 Senior American Legion baseball team took to the road Thursday evening.

From Anderson Field, West Point played host to Wakefield and won 9-1 in four and a half innings.

West Point Post 70 opened scoring in the first inning by leading 6-1. They then added a run in the second and two more runs in the fourth to hold on for the run-rule victory. Wakefield falls to 8-14 on the season.

Ben Klein, Justin Erb and Solomon Peitz all recorded singles for Wakefield. Julio Sanchez accounted for the lone RBI scoring Esgar Godinez.

Sanchez suffered the loss in an inning allowing six runs (two earned) off of four hits while striking out one batter and walking two. Seth Nuernberger worked three innings allowing three runs (two earned) off of five hits while striking out four batters and walking one.

The Wakefield Post 81 Seniors are next in action on Sunday, July 8 at Creighton. Wakefield will also play at Hartington on Tuesday, July 9 and at Crofton on Friday, July 13 all at 7 p.m.

The Post 81 Seniors are the host of the Class C2 Area Tournament from Eaton Field between Friday, July 20 – Tuesday, July 24. Participating teams include Battle Creek, Ponca, Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells, Pierce, Stanton, Pender and Laurel.
