Wakefield Girls Knockdown Key Foul Shots, Wayne Boys Outlast Hot Three-Point Shooting From Wakefield

WAYNE – With one team playing their second regular season home game of five in the month of December, another began a five-game road stand over their next six Tuesday night.

From Wayne Jr/Sr High School, Tuesday night’s doubleheader featured the Blue Devil girls and boys hosting the Wakefield Trojans.

The Wakefield girls defeated Wayne High, 55-47 while the Wayne boys won 66-58 over Wakefield. The Trojan girls improved to 1-1 as Wayne fell to 1-2 while the Blue Devil boys moved to 3-0 and Wakefield dropped to 1-1.

In the girls game, Wakefield led 13-7 early before Wayne High kept the game close with a 16-11 second quarter. Wakefield remained ahead 24-23 at the break. The Trojans then added to their lead with a 12-11 third and 19-13 fourth to win 55-47.

Junior Brooklyn Kruse paced Wayne High in scoring with 19 points (3-9 FT) while senior Rubie Klausen added 11 points (7-8 FT). Other scoring came from senior Mia Nelsen with seven points; senior Kiara Krusemark had four points as senior Mady Sievers and sophomore Kierah Haase both scored three points.

Wayne finished 13-21 from the foul line.

A trio of Wakefield players poured in double figures led by sophomore Jordan Metzler with 15 points (three made three’s), senior Destiny Helzer added 14 points (5-6 FT) as junior Alex Arenas scored 10 points. Other Trojan leaders were senior Aishah Valenzuela with seven points, junior MaKenna Decker had six points as sophomore Daveigh Munter-McAfee finished with three points.

The Trojans shot 19-25 from the foul line (10-13 in the fourth).

 

During the boys contest, the Trojans outscored Wayne, 19-16 in the first quarter before Wayne High edged Wakefield in the second quarter, 16-7. The Blue Devils led 32-26 at the break. Wakefield pulled back within a point with an 18-13 third quarter while Wayne High won the fourth quarter, 21-14. Final again favored Wayne, 66-58.

Wayne High leaders were senior Tanner Walling with 19 points (four made three’s/5-6 FT), junior Daniel Judd poured in 18 points as junior Sedjro Agoumba finished with 12 points. Senior Brandon Bartos added nine points, junior Alex Phelps scored six points as senior Camron Weaselhead tallied two points.

Wayne shot 11-17 from the foul line.

Junior Eliseo Sarmiento stole the show for the Trojans with six made three-pointers for a team-high 18 points, followed by junior Cade Johnson who poured in 13 points and junior Hunter Schultz tacked on 12 points. Senior Armando Villa added nine points, senior Logan Bokemper had five points as sophomore Johnathan Birkley scored a point.

The Trojans finished 9-16 from the charity stripe.

 

The Wayne High girls and boys will next visit Wahoo on Friday, December 10 and host Columbus Lakeview on Saturday, December 11. For Wakefield, they’ll host Omaha Nation on Friday, December 10 before playing four straight road games from December 14 – 21 ahead of the Shootout on the Elkhorn Holiday Basketball Tournament hosted by Wisner-Pilger.

 

Also congratulations goes out to Jordyn Carr of Allen as she recently scored her 1,000th career point on Friday, December 3 when Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) played Bloomfield. She also spent time with Wakefield-Allen.
