WINNEBAGO – As a weekend road invite approaches, the Wakefield-Allen wrestling team took to the road early in the week.
From Winnebago high school, the Trojans of W-A joined Hartington Cedar Catholic during the Winnebago triangular.
In the dual against HCC, Wakefield-Allen edged Cedar Catholic 30-28.
The lone match win from Wakefield-Allen came from Wyatt Verzani (145) over Cole Steffensen by fall (1:38). W-A also won 126, 160, 195 and 285 by forfeit.
Cedar Catholic match wins came from Nash Albers (132) over Gabriel Lamprecht by fall (4:36); Kerby Hochstein (138) over Gabe Reinert by fall (0:46) and Conner Hochstein (152) over Cole Verzani by major decision (11-2) while HCC won 170 and 106 by forfeit.
Both teams double forfeit 182, 220, 113 and 120.
During the dual with Winnebago, the Trojans won 42-36.
Wakefield-Allen match wins were posted by Kolton Fischer (132) over Malachi Bassette by fall (1:30); Cole Verzani (160) over Mario Suniga by fall (2:18) and Rylan Weaver (195) over Zeriah George by fall (4:51) while the Trojans won 138, 145, 152 and 170 by forfeit.
The Indians recorded a match win from Darion Earth (285) over Austin Gregerson by fall (0:34) with wins by forfeit from 182, 220, 113, 120 and 126.
Both teams double forfeit 106.
The middle match saw Winnebago defeat Cedar Catholic, 42-36.
HCC match wins came from Nash Albers (132) over Malachi Bassette by fall (0:41) and Eric Hoesing (182) over RJ Urbanec by fall (0:32) as forfeit wins were posted from 138, 145, 152 and 106.
Winnebago won 120, 126, 160, 195, 220, 285 and 113 by forfeit while both teams double forfeit 170.
The Wakefield-Allen wrestling team will next compete in the Raymond Central Invite this Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
