Wakefield-Allen Wins Back-And-Forth Girls Game, Trojans Boys Comeback In Fourth To Defeat Randolph

RANDOLPH – With just a road contest at Stanton later this week prior to the holiday tourney season, the Wakefield-Allen girls and Wakefield boys basketball teams were in action Tuesday night.

From Randolph high school, the Trojans visited the Randolph Cardinals.

During the girls game, Wakefield-Allen took the early 23-12 lead before Randolph stormed back in the second with a 23-10 quarter. The Trojans chipped away at the deficit with a 22-10 third quarter and took over the fourth (15-0) to win 70-45. Wakefield-Allen has now won three straight to improve to 3-1 while Randolph fell to 0-4.

Jordyn Carr recorded a double-double for Wakefield-Allen with 27 points and 10 steals. Alex Arenas followed with 14 points as Kassidy Brudigam scored 10 points. Other scoring came from Aishah Valenzuela with eight points, Carly Dickens produced five points as Ally Twohig and Anna Lundahl both had three points.

The Trojans finished 9-13 from the foul line hitting six three-point shots.

Randolph used a pair of 10-point scoring from Jaiden Taylor and Kelly Pinkelman while Gracie Eledge tallied nine points. The Trojans went 4-15 from the charity stripe and knocked down five three-pointers.

 

In the boys contest, Randolph held a slight lead of 10-8 in the first while extending their lead thanks to a 17-11 second. At the break, the Cardinals led 27-19. In the second half, Wakefield started to mount their comeback with a 17-15 third before outscoring Randolph 26-14 in the fourth. Final saw Wakefield win 62-56 to snap a two-game losing streak and now sit 3-2 while Randolph fell to 0-4.

The Trojans knocked down 10 three pointers as a team led by six made shots from Blake Brown who ended the night with 22 points as did Justin Erb with four made three’s scoring 22 points. Cade Johnson scored all seven of his points in the final quarter, Gabe Peitz finished with six points and Zephan Tinsley tallied two points.

Wakefield shot 6-10 from the foul line after going 5-8 in the fourth quarter.

Keaton Backhaus paced all scorers with 28 points (seven made three’s). Carter Schnoor tacked on 12 points and Justin Haselhorst added 11 points.

The Cardinals hit nine three points shots and went 5-7 from the free throw line.

The Wakefield-Allen girls and Wakefield boys will next visit Stanton on Friday, December 20. The Trojans will then compete in the Shootout on the Elkhorn hosted by Wisner-Pilger next weekend. The girls will open with Winnebago on Saturday, December 28 before playing the winner or loser of either Ponca or Neligh-Oakdale on Monday, December 30. The boys will take on Norfolk JV on Saturday, December 28 and play the winner or loser of either Winnebago or Neligh-Oakdale.

For Randolph, the Cardinals will host Bloomfield on Thursday, December 19 before visiting Wynot on Saturday, December 21. Randolph will also host their holiday tourney on Friday and Saturday, December 27 – 28.
