Volleyball Regional Rankings, #2 Wayne State College Listed First In-Region

WAYNE – With three more overall DII wins and one of two Central Region volleyball teams with more than 20 in-region victories, Wayne State College leads the pack with postseason tournaments looming.

According to a release from Wane State Athletics, the second of three NCAA Division II Central Region Volleyball rankings were announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.

The top eight teams in the region will advance to the NCAA Division II National Tournament November 17 – 20. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the GAC, MIAA and NSIC postseason tournaments with the remaining five spots awarded on an at-large basis.

Wayne State is one of five NSIC schools listed in the rankings and is first with a 26-1 NCAA overall record as of October 31. Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota Duluth from the NSIC are second and third (both at 23-3) followed by Northwest Missouri State (21-5) and Nebraska Kearney (22-4) from the MIAA in fourth and fifth.

Central Missouri is sixth (MIAA) at 18-8 and Southwest Minnesota State (NSIC) seventh at 21-5). Central Oklahoma (MIAA) at 23-5, Washburn (MIAA) at 20-6 and St. Cloud State (NSIC) at 21-5 close out the top 10 teams in the region.

The NCAA selection show is set for Sunday, November 13 at 9 p.m. Central Time on ncaa.com.

Wayne State College, ranked second in this week’s AVCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, is 27-1 on the season and first place in the NSIC with a 17-1 league record. The Wildcats close out the NSIC regular season this weekend on the road at Minnesota State-Mankato Friday evening at 6 p.m. and #3 Concordia-St. Paul Saturday in a 2 p.m. road contest.
