WAYNE – As Class B sub-district softball pairings will officially be announced today, Wayne High will close out their regular season with a pair of varsity games and parent’s night Thursday.
From the Wayne Softball Complex, the 21-3 Blue Devils have won 16 consecutive games.
After having their Tuesday night game with (17-9) Logan View/Scribner-Snyder postponed, WHS will first play the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. and then their scheduled game with the 21-1 GACC Bluejays around 6:30 p.m. with parent’s night in-between.
WHS will also host the Mid State Conference Tournament on Saturday, October 5. Opening round games will be played at 10 a.m. as #4 O’Neill will face #5 Pierce on the Southeast Field and #2 Wayne will take on #3 Boone Central/Newman Grove on the northeast field. GACC earned a first round bye as the #1 seed and will await the winner of either Pierce or O’Neill at 11:45 a.m. on the NE field as the loser of Pierce/O’Neill and Wayne/Boone will play on the SE field at 11:45 a.m.
The championship (NE) and consolation (SE) round games are slated for 1:30 p.m.
Unofficially, Wayne at 21-3 would be the #1 seed for the B-6 Subdistrict followed by Seward (14-9) as the #2 seed, #3 Blue River (9-14) and #4 Schuyler (3-21).
Class A and C teams will see their district brackets announced on Monday, October 7 before playing on Wednesday, October 9 – Thursday, October 10. Class B teams will open sub-district competition on Monday, October 7 – Tuesday, October 8 with a best-of-three winner-take-all district final on Friday, October 11.
Class A, B and C state tournament games will be played in Hastings from Wednesday, October 16 – Friday, October 18.
