Two WHS Individuals Earn Medals During Home Girls Golf Invite

WAYNE – After competing in a scramble format dual earlier in the week, the Wayne High girls golf team welcomed in 12 pogroms during a home invitational.

From the Wayne Country Club, the top five teams finished within 10 strokes of each other as West Point-Beemer won the invite with a 427. Papillion La Vista and Battle Creek both shot a 429, Hartington Cedar Catholic/Hartington-Newcastle finished fourth with a 430 and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge rounded out the top five teams with a 437.

Pierce finished sixth with a 451, Thurston-Cuming took seventh with a 496, Elkhorn Valley (eighth – 522) and Stanton (ninth – 611) closed out team scoring while Oakland-Craig, Wayne, Crofton and South Sioux City had individual golfers take part in the invite.

Delayne Sudbeck of HCC/HNS paced the field with a 90 followed by Megan Lutt of Battle Creek in second with a 94. LCC’s leader came from Jadyn Kinkaid with a 96 to finish third as Brooklyn Wrice of Papillion La Vista placed fourth with a 97.

Wayne medalists were Natalie Bentjen who took sixth with a 101 while Riley Haschke finished 20th with a 112. Trinity Surber shot a 131 for Wayne High.

The Wayne High girls golf team is back in action on Tuesday, September 1 during a road triangular with Battle Creek and Elkhorn Valley. The nine-hole competition will start at 4 p.m. from Evergreen Hill Golf Course. The Blue Devils will also compete in the Stanton Invite next Friday as they also found out they’ll compete in the Blair District this fall.
