Two-Run Inning Favors Northeastern State Over WSC During Softball Classic Game

EMPORIA, KS – The Wayne State College softball team was back in action for one game during the 2019 Emporia State Classic.

WSC took part in a Friday afternoon contest against Northeastern State on Turnbull Field in Emporia, Kansas.

Early on both teams were scoreless through three innings. Then in the bottom of the fourth, Northeastern State brought in two runs before neither team scored the remainder of the game. Northeastern State held off the ‘Cats for the 2-0 victory to improve to 19-12 as Wayne State fell to 9-8.

The lone extra base-hit came from Annie Grammer with a triple. Emily Chandler, Michaela Smith and Kamryn Sparks all singled.

Riley Vanderveen suffered the loss in three and a third innings allowing two earned runs off three hits while walking four batters. Makenna Adkison worked two and two-thirds allowing two hits while striking out one batter.

Due to rain and field conditions, the Saturday doubleheader in the ESU Softball Classic was cancelled and will not be made up.
