Tuesday Dirt Devil Results

NORFOLK/PENDER/WAYNE – A trio of Dirt Devil summer softball teams were in action Tuesday evening in three different locations and two closed out their season.

The Dirt Devil 10s visited the Norfolk Kelly’s dropping a pair of games of 13-5 and 8-0 ending their summer season at 2-10, the Dirt Devil 12s played at Pender suffering a 12-6 setback in seven innings ending their season at 4-4-1 while the Dirt Devil 14s split with Logan View from the Summer Sports Complex winning the first game 8-6 before falling in game two, 6-5 to now sit 7-11-1 on the season.

In the opening game for the 10s, the Kelly’s led 3-1 after the first before outscoring the Dirt Devil 10s 5-1 in the second and adding five more runs in the third to lead 13-2. Wayne tallied three runs in the fourth but fell 13-5.

Courtney Roeber singled and drove in a run while Anna Dutcher and Kinnley McGuire both singled and scored for Wayne. Alexis Legler also singled; Kamden Dobbins, Elizbeth Hix and Sidney Nelson all scored as Lilly Johnson, Alivia Kesting and Gracelynn Daniels all accounted for a RBI.

McGuire suffered the loss in an inning of work allowing eight earned runs off four hits while striking out three batters and walking six. Johnson worked two-thirds of an inning allowing five earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter and walking four.

During the second game, the Norfolk Kelly’s scored two runs in the first inning before adding six more in the third to win 8-0.

The lone Dirt Devil 10s hit came from Kinnley McGuire with a single. McGuire suffered the loss in three innings allowing eight earned runs off three hits while striking out nine batters and walking 10.

From the 12s lone seven inning game, Wayne took the early 2-1 lead after the first and scored once more in the top of the second before Pender recorded a seven-run second inning to lead 8-3. The Dirt Devils outscored Pender 2-1 in the fourth but Pender tallied two more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. Wayne scored one run in the top of the seventh but fell 12-6.

Caylie Hopkins doubled twice and scored twice while Aubrey Russel doubled, drove in a run and scored for Wayne. Reagan McGuire singled, drove in two runs and scored; Lily Gubbels and Jordyn Gamble both singled and drove in a run; Mallory Redden and Justice Olson both singled and scored as Carli Canham singled twice.

McGuire suffered the loss in six innings allowing 12 earned runs off 11 hits while striking out nine batters and walking seven.

During the 14s opening game, Logan View jumped ahead with a four-run opening inning as Wayne tallied a run in the second to trail 4-1. After giving up two more runs in the top of the fourth, the Dirt Devil 14s poured in seven runs in the home half of the inning to win 8-6.

Hannah Gubbels singled twice, drove in two runs and scored while Delaney Kruse singled twice and scored twice for Wayne. Jersi Jensen singled and drove in two runs; Kierah Haase singled, drove in a run and scored; Taytem Ellis singled and scored; Emily Jaeger singled; Rylin Hall added a RBI and scored; Caitlyn Mostek accounted for two RBI and run scored as Samantha Gubbels scored.

Samantha Gubbels picked up the win in five innings allowing six earned runs off six hits while striking out four batters and walking three.

From the final game, the Dirt Devil 14s scored five runs in the second but Logan View added six runs in the third to hold on for the 6-5 victory.

Jensen singled, doubled and drove in a run while Samantha Gubbels and Mostek both singled, drove in a run and scored. Jaeger singled and scored; Rylin Hall and Sammi Gubbels both scored as Hannah Gubbels accounted for a RBI.

Hall suffered the loss in four innings allowing six earned runs off seven hits while striking out two batters and walking another two.

The Dirt Devil 10s and 12s have ended their seasons while the Dirt Devil 14s will close out their season at the Norfolk Golden Girls 2 at 6/8 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. The Dirt Devil 16/18s will next visit Yankton Fury on Thursday, July 16 at 6:30/8 p.m.
