Trojans Run Into Top five Trouble From BRLD

BANCROFT – The Wakefield-Allen girls and Wakefield boys basketball teams took on a pair of top Class C2 opponents early in the week.

From Bancroft-Rosalie Schools in Bancroft, the Trojans visited the BRLD Wolverines Tuesday night.

During the girls game, Wakefield-Allen had an early lead over #3 Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur before the Wolverines won the opening quarter 19-15. BRLD then built a 43-30 halftime lead thanks to a 24-15 second and pulled away from the Trojans with a 24-10 third. Wakefield-Allen won the fourth, 16-14 but #3 BRLD got back on the winning track with the 81-56 victory to improve to 14-1 on the season as the Trojans fell to 8-6.

Alex Arenas paced Wakefield-Allen with 17 points followed by Jordyn Carr with 15 points. Kassidy Brudigam added five points while Maddie Mogus, Ally Twohig and Anna Lundahl all scored four points, Carly Dickens tallied three points as Rachel Borg and Makenna Decker both scored two points.

The Trojans shot 6-18 from the foul line.

BRLD was led by Isabel Freemont with 21 points (seven made three’s), followed by Caragan Tietz with 17 points and Jordan Snyder tacking on 16 points. Alyssa Buchholz also scored 14 points.

The Wolverines went 13-19 at the charity stripe while knocking down 10 threes.

 

In the boys contest, #1 BRLD started to pull away late in the first quarter of 18-6 before extending their lead with a 22-17 second. At the break, the Wolverines led 40-23. Both teams got off to a slow start in the second half, but BRLD outscored Wakefield 12-7 in the third and 19-5 in the fourth. Final saw #1 BRLD defeat the Trojans 71-35 to improve to 13-0 while Wakefield fell to 7-6.

Blake Brown recorded 15 points for Wakefield-Allen while Justin Erb tallied 10 points. Blake Heimann scored six points while Cade Johnson and Couy Johnson both scored two points.

The Trojans shot 5-7 from the foul line.

Three Wolverines hit double digit scoring led by Dylan Beutler with 21 points, Lucas Vogt followed with 17 points and Darwin Snyder tacked on 14 first half points.

BRLD finished 3-4 from the foul line and knocked down eight three-point shots as a team.

The Wakefield-Allen girls and Wakefield boys will next be in action on Friday, January 24 hosting Emerson-Hubbard.
