Trojans Drop Four-Set Match At Ponca

PONCA – A road match that was rescheduled from earlier this month took place Tuesday evening for the Wakefield volleyball program.

From Ponca Public Schools, the Trojans competed with the Indians. Ponca was originally scheduled to host Vermillion, SD.

After falling behind 2-0, Wakefield answered back with a third-set win before Ponca put the match away in four sets. Ponca defeated the Trojans (25-21, 25-15, 20-25, 25-18) to improve to 10-9 while Wakefield fell to 6-18.

Alex Arenas paced Wakefield at the net with 12 kills while Rachel Borg had seven kills and nine digs. Abby Heimann finished with 16 digs, 11 set assist and four kills; Jordan Metzler added 17 set assists and three service aces as Aishah Valenzuela posted a team-high 31 digs and one service ace. MaKenna Decker and Hayden Ekberg both had a solo block.

Wakefield volleyball team will next visit Tri County Northeast in Allen on Thursday, October 15.
