Trojan Volleyball Sweeps Road Opponent, Win Back-To-Back

CREIGHTON – After securing a home sweep earlier this week over Winside, the Wakefield volleyball team went back to work on the road prior to another seven-day break from action.

From Creighton Community Public Schools, the Trojans visited the Bulldogs.

Wakefield won their second straight match for the second time this season after sweeping Spalding Academy and Madison during a road triangular in Madison on September 8.

The Trojans swept Creighton (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) to improve to 6-17 on the season while the Bulldogs fell to 3-14.

Alex Arenas paced Wakefield with nine kills followed by Rachel Borg with six kills and 15 digs. Hayden Ekberg tallied four kills. Aishah Valenzuela recorded a team high 22 digs to go along with three service aces. Jordan Metzler finished with 10 set assists and five digs while Abby Heimann tacked on 12 digs and seven set assists.

Other aces came from Olivia Donner, Rachel Borg, Katie Borg and Metzler. Rachel Borg and Ekberg both had two blocks (one solo).

The Wakefield volleyball team will be off until next Thursday, October 15 when the Trojans visit Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) in Allen at 5:30/8 p.m. for JV and varsity competition.
