Trojan Volleyball Drops Pair Of Triangular Matches

HARTINGTON – After having a home triangular turn into a single match last week, the Wakefield volleyball team went back to work on the road during their final triangular of the season.

From Hartington-Newcastle Public School, the Wildcats welcomed in both Wakefield and Wausa.

In the match with Wausa, the Trojans lost in three sets (25-22, 18-25, 25-11) while the host, Hartington-Newcastle swept Wakefield (25-19, 25-18). Wakefield is now 4-16 on the season. HNS then won in three sets over Wausa (20-25, 25-16, 25-22) improving to 8-7 while Wausa fell to 8-3.

From the loss against Wausa, Alex Arenas recorded eight kills, Hayden Ekberg added seven kills and Rachel Borg finished with five kills. Aishah Valenzuela posted a team-high 20 digs, Abby Heimann had 19 digs and seven set assists as Katie Borg tallied 10 digs. Jordan Metzler led the team in set assists with 16. Olivia Donner came away with three service aces while single aces were from Rachel Borg, Katie Borg and Metzler.

During the loss to the Wildcats, Daveigh Munter-McAfee and Ekberg both had four kills while Rachel Borg came away with 13 digs, three kills and three service aces. Valenzuela recorded a team-high 13 digs, Metzler led the team in set assists with seven and one ace as Heimann posted six set assists. Arenas had a solo block.

The Wakefield volleyball team will next host Crofton on Thursday, October 1.
