WAKEFIELD – The 2019 football season saw the Wakefield Trojans take another step in their eight-game schedule closing their year winning six straight.
Last season also marked the fourth consecutive year where Wakefield finished the season with six wins or more as they posted a 7-1 record. This will mark the seventh season that Wakefield has competed in eight-man football.
Thursday night will also feature the start of another round of each regular season game is a playoff game with the Trojans being ineligible for the Class D1 playoffs due to enrollment numbers and playing down a class.
Wakefield will open their season on Thursday, August 27 with an opponent who finished last year with a sub-.500 record being Guardian Angels Central Catholic. The Bluejays closed out their 2019 record at 4-5 which included a 42-20 first round Class D1 playoff loss to Bruning-Davenport/Shickley.
A year ago, Wakefield topped GACC 50-36 in Wakefield. The Trojans also won in West Point against the Bluejays in 2018, 38-22.
The lone loss for the Trojans last year came against Howells-Dodge, 30-28 who isn’t on the Wakefield schedule for at least the next two seasons.

All fans planning to attend Thursday night’s football contest will be required to wear a mask and bring their own lawn chairs. There will be no bleachers for fans to sit on and only prepackaged items will be sold from the concession stand. Wakefield Community Schools also asks attendees to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
