WAYNE – Following an entire season canceled due to the pandemic, and aside from a handful of non-conference matches this past spring, the Wayne State College volleyball team is under two months away from starting their 2021 fall schedule.
According to a release from the Wayne State Athletics Department, the Wildcat volleyball team will open the season with a pair of road tournaments.
WSC will take part in the Dallas Baptist Tournament in Dallas, Texas on Friday, September 3 and Saturday, September 4. Opponents include Westminster College (Utah) and Dallas Baptist on September 3 as well as Arkansas Tech and Eastern New Mexico on September 4.
The Colorado Premier Tournament will be held in Denver Colorado on Friday and Saturday, September 10 – 11. The Wildcat volleyball team is scheduled to face Lewis (Ill) and Western Washington on September 10 and two other teams on September 11.
Wayne State College will then begin their 20-game NSIC schedule on Friday and Saturday, September 17 – 18 at Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The conference home opener will be on Tuesday, September 21 vs. Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. WSC will also host Mount Marty (SD) on Tuesday, October 12 in a non-conference match.
The 2021 NSIC Volleyball Tournament will be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota from Friday, November 19 – Sunday, November 21. The NCAA Central Regional Tournament will last from Thursday, December 2 – Saturday, December 4.
Wayne State College competed in a handful of spring indoor scrimmages and exhibitions along with their beach volleyball season.
The last time the Wildcat volleyball team took to the court for a league game was on November 22, 2019 when WSC was swept by St. Cloud State in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament. Wayne State finished 24-7 overall and 14-6 in conference play and finished the 2019 final regular season AVCA Division II Top 25 coaches Poll rated #13.
