Tri County Northeast Takes Four Set Match Over Wakefield

ALLEN – After dropping a four-set match earlier this week on the road, the Wakefield volleyball team went back out on the road just to a town to the north.

From Allen Consolidated Schools, the Trojans visited Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) Thursday night.

After dropping the first set, 25-23, the Wolfpack won the final three sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-17) to win the match in four sets. Tri County Northeast improved to 9-13 while the Trojans fell to 6-19.

Double figure kills came from Rachel Borg with 12 and 13 digs as Hayden Ekberg and Alex Arenas (15 digs) both finished with 10 kills each for Wakefield. MaKenna Decker also had six kills while Aishah Valenzuela tallied 11 digs. Abby Heimann finished with 15 set assists and nine digs while Jordan Metzler came away with eight set assists.

Service aces came from Metzler and Rachel Borg with two each while Ekberg and Heimann both had one ace. Ekberg led the block-attack with three followed by Heimann, Arenas and Decker all with two as Rachel Borg added one block.

Tri County Northeast in Emerson will host Pool D of the Lewis & Clark Conference Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, October 17 welcoming in Winnebago and Homer. Wakefield will compete against Hartington-Newcastle and Creighton in Hartington also Saturday for Pool B.
