Tri County League Wayne Ponies Win Sunday, Wayne Youth Tourney Championship Results

WAYNE/WEST POINT – After the Wayne Pony tournament team suffered back-to-back losses in their home tourney, the league teams closed out the weekend.

From the Summer Sports Complex in Wayne, there were plenty of youth baseball games for all.

In the Pony Division, Dakota Valley 14U defeated Malcolm to win the Wayne Youth Baseball Tourney while Wahoo defeated Pender to place third.

Wayne dropped a 6-5 Friday night game to Pender before the Dakota Valley 14s won 20-3. The Wayne Pony Tourney team is now 6-6 and will next face Sergeant Bluff in Wakefield on Friday, June 25 at 7 p.m.

 

During the Bronco Division, O’Neill won the lone winner-take-all finals over Lemars (IA), 5-4. The Wayne Bronco tourney team went 0-2 with losses to Pender on Friday and O’Neill on Sunday.

From the Didget Division, it was Vermillion defeating Logan View to finish first while the Wayne team went 1-2 in pool Play. Wayne defeated Pender but suffered losses to Vermillion and West Point.

Moving back into the Tri County League play, Wayne White hosted Wakefield and won 8-4 while Wayne Blue visited West Point and won 10-8. Both Pony teams improved to 6-3.

During the Wayne White home outing, Wayne led 2-1 after two innings before scoring three more in the third. Wayne outscored Wakefield, 2-1 in the fourth while Wakefield tallied two runs in the fifth. Wayne White scored once more in the sixth to win 8-4.

Gavin Redden singled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice while Carter Wiese singled three times and drove in four runs. Parke Patefield singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice; Calvin Ankeny singled and scored three times; Lance Stange and Alex Rodriguez both singled; Zander Liston accounted for a RBI as Drew Reinhardt scored.

Redden (69 pitches) secured the win in four innings allowing two runs (one earned) off three hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. Ankeny (43 pitches) worked the final three innings allowing two earned runs off two hits while striking out one batter and walking two.

In the Wayne Blue game, Wayne scored two runs in the first, one in the third and four more in the fourth to lead 7-0. West Point outscored Wayne, 8-3 in the sixth as Wayne Blue held on for the 10-8 victory.

Gavin Anderson recorded two doubles, five RBI and one run scored while Kaden Keller singled, added two doubles and scored four times. Jace Jorgensen singled three times, drove in three runs and scored twice; Will Leseberg singled three times and scored twice as Samuel Etter singled and scored.

Keller (89 pitches) secured the win in six innings allowing two hits while striking out 10 batters and walking three. Brodrick Tiedtke (19 pitches) allowed five runs (four earned) off one hit while walking three batters not recording an out. Jamison Meyer (30 pitches) worked the final inning allowing three earned runs off two hits while striking out one batter and walking two.

Wayne White will next host Oakland-Craig while Wayne Blue will visit North Bend both on Wednesday, June 23 at 7 p.m.
