Three Shutout Victories, Blue Devil Softball Team Crowned Tournament Champions

WAYNE – After starting their season Thursday night with a 2-0 win over a Class B team, the Wayne High softball team entertained several Class C opponents during an early season tournament.

From the Blue Devil Softball Complex, Wayne opened with a 12-0 victory over Ponca before winning a low-scoring contest over Twin River of 3-0. The preseason rated #1 team in Class C then won 3-0 over a top 10 opponent in Arlington for the title match Saturday afternoon.

From the opening game, Annie Kniesche posted a two-hit game with a double and triple to go along with three RBI while Abby Ankeny singled, tripled and drove in two runs. Sidney Biggerstaff homered as she drove in three runs, Kayla Fleming doubled and drove in a run as Tori Kniesche singled and drove in a run.

Tori Kniesche picked up the complete game no-hitter win in three innings as she struck out eight batters.

From the second round, Maysn Dorey doubled and drove in two runs as Kendall Dorey posted a pair of singles. Fleming singled and drove in a run while Annie Kniesche, Tori Kniesche and Allison Claussen all singled.

Tori Kniesche accounted for her second complete game, no-hitter win in six innings striking out 14 batters and walking two.

In the championship match, Biggerstaff doubled and drove in a run as both Annie Kniesche and Ankeny singled and drove in a run. Kendall Dorey, Maysn Dorey and Josie Thompson all singled.

Tori Kniesche capped off her third no-hitter complete game shutout of the weekend as she struck out another 14 batters in six innings.

Wayne High will next entertain O’Neill on Tuesday, August 21 from the Wayne Softball Complex. Junior Varsity action is scheduled for 5 p.m. with Varsity action to follow at 6:30 p.m.
