WAYNE/ALBION – It’s championship Wednesday for Class B and C Senior American Legion Baseball State Tournament action.
After both undefeated teams suffered a loss Tuesday, there are three, one-loss teams still competing for a state championship.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, a Class B elimination game saw Wahoo score six runs in the bottom of the sixth to hold on for win over Hickman, 10-9. Then, Bennington jumped out front of Springfield scoring nine of their 12 runs in the first three innings to win 12-4 and hand Springfield their first loss.
Wednesday will open with Bennington vs. Wahoo at 5 p.m. as the winner will advance to the winner-take-all title game against Springfield around 7:30 p.m. This will be the first meeting of the tournament between Wahoo and Bennington as both teams suffered first round losses and have fought off three elimination games.
Class C State games are being played in Albion from Leon Nelson Memorial Field. In an elimination game, Pender again scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to defeat Centura, 3-2 and win over DCB for the second time after winning on Saturday 5-4. Wilber posted a four-run sixth inning to hold off then-undefeated David City to win 6-2.
Just like in Class B, Class C will open with an elimination game featuring Pender vs. Wilber at 5 p.m. as Pender won on Sunday, 7-6 where they scored four-runs in the seventh to win. The winner will get David City for the second time shortly after for the winner-take-all state championship match.
