Three First Half Goals Lead To Northern State Victory Over WSC

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Sunday afternoon NSIC soccer featured a one-score game where Northern State jumped out front early.

From the Athletic & Rec Field in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Northern State scored two goals within four minutes of each other, 10 minutes into the game. WSC answered when Megan Schuster scored in the 16th minute (15:18), but another goal was scored for the Wolves right before half (41:09) to lead 3-1.

Christina Stasi added a goal early in the second half (46:18) to pull within a score, but a few minutes later Northern State scored again (49:48) to lead 4-2. The last goal of the match came in the 85th minute (84:31) by Carleigh Wilson as NSU held on the for the 4-3 victory. Northern State improves to 7-6-1 (5-5-1 NSIC) as the ‘Cats fell to 3-9-1 (3-7-1 NSIC).

WSC again outshot their opponent, 20-15 (10-7 on goal) while Northern State recorded eight corner kicks compared to six from Wayne State College.

Stasi scored once putting three of her four shots on goal, Samantha Phillips posted two of three shots on goal and Carleigh Wilson scored a goal placing both of her shots on goal. Rachel Fraser also put two shot attempts on goal.

Alyssa Bagley allowed three goals and recorded one save in the first half while Rachel Grisham allowed one goal while picking up two saves in the second half.

The Wayne State College women’s soccer team will play their next three of four games from the confines of the WSC Soccer Complex. The ‘Cats will host Bemidji State on Friday, October 19 at 3 p.m. and entertain Minnesota Crookston for parent’s day on Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m.
