Three Close Sets Favor #18 Wayne State Volleyball Over Peacocks

FAYETTE, IA – The 18th-ranked Wayne State College volleyball team opened their first full road-NSIC double header weekend Friday evening.

From Dorman Gymnasium in Fayette, Iowa, Upper Iowa University hosted the ‘Cats.

#18 Wayne State College held off Upper Iowa on the road and won in straight sets (26-24, 27-25, 27-25). WSC improves to 11-3 (4-2 NSIC) as Upper Iowa falls to 8-6 (1-5 NSIC).

Katie Stephens posted a double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs as Jaci Brahmer followed with eight kills and seven blocks. Alyssa Ballenger and Tarrin Beller (six blocks, one solo) both added six kills while Maddie Knobbe picked up five kills. Megan Gebhardt posted a double-double with a team-high 30 set assists and 11 digs to go along with six blocks. Haley Kauth tacked on a team-high 21 digs with Maddie Duffy right behind with 17.

WSC outhit Upper Iowa, .160 to .105 and recorded 14 blocks compared to four from the Peacocks.

Wayne State College continues Saturday with a road game at Winona State with first set scheduled for 4 p.m.
