WAYNE – A trio of goals were scored in the second half as the Wayne State College women’s soccer program took to the home pitch Friday afternoon.
From Bob Cunningham Field (game moved from WSC Soccer Pitch due to field conditions), the Wildcats welcomed in Winona State University.
Following a scoreless first half, WSC went to work early in the second half with two goals netted by Annika Syvrud. She scored in the 52nd (51:37) and 54th (53:19) minutes to put the ‘Cats up 2-0. Winona State did score in the final few minutes (87:57) as Wayne State held on for the 2-1 victory.
WSC improved to 5-7-4 (5-5-3 NSIC) while the Warriors fell to 4-10-1 (3-9-1 NSIC).
Syvrud scored two goals on three shot attempts all on goal for WSC while Skylar Stueckrath tallied a shot attempt.
Katherine Hagemann recorded seven saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes.
Winona State outshot the ‘Cats, 18-4 (8-3 on goal) and totaled seven corner kicks compared to WSC’s one.
The Wayne State College women’s soccer team will next visit Upper Iowa on Sunday, October 31 at noon.
