WAYNE – The Wayne Country Club was the host to 12 high school boys golf teams during the B2 District Meet Tuesday.
Mount Michael Benedictine was crowned District Champions shooting a 325. Columbus Lakeview followed as runner-up with a 341 and Columbus Scotus in third with a 343 to round out the state qualifying teams.
Other team scores came from Bennington (fourth – 350), Wayne (T-fifth – 369), West Point-Beemer (T-fifth– 369), O’Neill (seventh – 378), Schuyler (eighth – 381), Boone Central/Newman Grove (ninth – 390), Blair (10th – 394), Omaha Roncalli Catholic (11th – 398) and Fort Calhoun (12th – 518).
Winning the tie-breaker was freshman Luke Gutschewski of Mount Michael Benedictine with the top individual qualifier being junior Teague Stewart of West Point-Beemer both shooting a 72.
Both Omaha Roncalli Catholic’s senior Dillon Eaves (82) and Bennington’s sophomore Jackson Prososki (85) have also qualified for state.
Wayne’s top golfer was Austin Fernau with an 89, followed by Jonah Brodersen and Zach Urbanec each with a 92. Shea Sweetland shot a 96 while Peyton DeWald finished with a 101.
The 2018 Class B NSAA Boys State Golf Championships are slated for Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22-23 from Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus. Tee times for both days are 9:30 a.m.
