LINCOLN – As both northeast Nebraska high school volleyball teams advanced to the semifinal round of the state tournament, playoff football returns for quarterfinal action across the state today.
From the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Class D1 featured two area programs competing in the 2022 NSAA State Volleyball Championships Thursday afternoon.
#1 Norfolk Catholic (29-4) made quick work of #8 Nebraska Christian (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) while #7 Hartington Cedar Catholic came from behind to upset #2 Cambridge (19-25, 30-32, 25-21, 25-14, 15-10) to improve to 25-10.
Norfolk Catholic will compete against #4 BDS at 9 a.m. on the PBA south court followed by Cedar Catholic vs. #3 Maywood-Hayes Center at 11 a.m. this morning in the semifinal round. The winners will advance to Saturday’s 11 a.m. Class D1 championship match at the Devaney Sports Center while the losers will compete in the consolation round at 1 p.m. tomorrow from Lincoln North Star.

Moving to playoff high school football in the quarterfinal rounds, Class C1 will feature a rematch from last year’s championship game. #2 Pierce (10-0) will host #7 Columbus Lakeview (8-2) at 7 p.m. this evening.
In Class C2, #3 Norfolk Catholic (10-0) will visit #11 Lincoln Lutheran (7-3) at 6 p.m. from Seacrest Field; #9 Battle Creek (8-2) will welcome in #1 Hastings St. Cecilia (10-0) at 7 p.m. and #12 Hartington Cedar Catholic (7-3) will host #4 Malcolm (10-0) at 7 p.m.
In Class D1, #3 Stanton (10-0) will visit #11 Nebraska Christian (8-2) at 7 p.m.
In Class D2, #3 Wynot (9-1) will host #6 Bloomfield (9-1) at 6 p.m.
Semifinal football games will be played next Friday, November 11.
