KEARNEY – With every race featuring nearly 100 runners, the 2018 NSAA State Cross Country Championships were held from the Kearney Country Club Friday afternoon.
Class D girls: Ainsworth was crowned champions with 63 points while North Platte St. Patrick’s earned a runner-up trophy with 77 points. Pender placed 15th with 199 points. Rylee Rice of Ainsworth won the race with a time of 19:25.6 out of 143 runners.
Paige Steinman of Pender earned a second place finish in a time of 20:03.4 followed by teammates Piper Steinman in 59th (23:51.74); Faith Morris (65th – 24:11.85) and Alexis Bodlak (73rd – 24:25.20).
Class B girls: Lincoln Pius X won the class with 44 points followed by Elkhorn with 50 points. Samantha Palermo of Norris won in a time of 19:57.7 out of 86 runners.
Sadie Rocha of South Sioux City placed 58th (22:33.4).
Class C girls: Holdrege was crowned champions with 50 points while Fort Calhoun placed second with 62 points. Lucia McKeag of Ogallala won the class in a time of 19:49 out of 93 runners.
Area individuals: Alexus Sindelar of Pierce placed third (20:13.2); Sara Reifenrath of Hartington (16th – 21:11.1); Callie Arnold of Pierce (26th – 21:41.5) and Sara Burbach of Hartington (46th – 22:41.7).
Class A girls: Lincoln East won with 65 points followed by Fremont with 71 points. Kaylie Crews of Papillion-La Vista won in a time of 18:42.5 out of 95 runners.
Melorie Summers of Norfolk placed 61st in a time of 21:29.1
Class D boys: Malcolm won the class with 46 points edging Norfolk Catholic who placed runner-up with 78 points. Wisner-Pilger also finished 14th with 198 points. Benjamin Arens of Ainsworth won the class in a time of 16:02.4 out of 141 runners.
Norfolk Catholic points came from Elliot Eisenmenger who placed 11th in a time of 18:04.63; Dalton Brunsing (18th – 18:22.01); Rylan Rasmussen (22nd – 18:26.14) and Wyatt Ash (27th – 18:33.16).
Wisner-Pilger athletes were led by Calby Ruskamp in 19th with a time of 18:22.36; Payton Biermann (44th – 19:15.52); Dylan Ludwig (53rd – 19:35.16) and Rockney Peck (82nd – 20:33.91)
Class B boys: Omaha Skutt Catholic won the class with 42 points followed by Lexington with 74 points. Ryan Zavadil of Skutt Catholic crossed the finish line first in a time of 16:28 out of 92 runners.
Zekariya Abdela of South Sioux City finished sixth (16:56.8)
Class C boys: Sidney won the team score with 53 points while Holdrege placed second with 58 points. Aidan Wheelock of Minden won the class in a time of 16:31.8 out of 98 runners.
Mason Sindelar of Pierce placed runner-up with a time of 16:52.1; Brayden Kathol of Hartington (28th – 18:20.9); Brandon Mitzel of West Point-Beemer (50th – 18:51.9) and Dagen Joachimsen of Hartington (60th – 19:04.4)
Class A boys: Fremont was crowned champions with 84 points followed by Creighton Prep in second with 94 points. Liem Chot of Lincoln North Star won the division in a time of 16:08.8 out of 92 runners.
Norfolk runners: Guillermo Mendez (57th – 17:54.3); Matthew Protzman (63rd – 17:59.7) and Jonathon Kittelson (78th – 18:33.1).
