WAYNE – Following another All-NSIC honor for the Wayne State women’s soccer senior, Christina Stasi was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-NSIC District VII Women’s Soccer Team.
The announcement came Thursday morning by the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
District VII represents athletes in the Great American Conference (GAC), Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA) and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot with Academic All-Americans to be announced in early December.
The award marks the first time that a Wildcat women’s soccer player has received this academic honor.
Stasi, a senior forward from Millard North HS, carries a 4.00 grade point average majoring in sociology and psychology.
On the field this season, Stasi collected her third All-NSIC honor in four years with All-NSIC Second Team honors after being named All-NSIC Honorable Mention as a freshman and junior. She led Wayne State in scoring this season with 10 points on four goals and two assists while playing in 17 games with 14 starts.
Stasi tied for the team lead in shots (26) and shots on goal (13) and had one game-winning goal this season. She recorded one goal with one assist in a 4-3 loss at Northern State (10/14/18) and also scored goals vs. Minnesota Duluth (9/30/18), Minnesota Crookston (10/21/18) and at Minnesota State (10/28/18). Stasi ended her Wildcat career with 12 goals and four assists and was Wayne State’s leading scorer the last two seasons.
The Wayne State College women’s soccer team finished the 2018 season with records of 4-12-1 overall and 4-10-1 in the NSIC.
