STANTON – Several area wrestling programs returned to the mat this past weekend during a road invite.
From Stanton Community Schools, 13 teams were in action during the Stanton Invite Saturday.
David City won the invite with 217.5 points, followed by Norfolk Catholic in runner-up with 115.5 points, Hartington Cedar Catholic placed third with 82, Osmond finished fourth with 73 points and Pender rounded out the top five teams with 65.5 points.
GACC (sixth – 63), Madison (seventh – 29), BRLD (eighth – 28), Stanton (ninth – 26), Scribner-Snyder (T-10th – 22), St. Mary’s (T-10th – 22), Wakefield (12th -17 ) and Lutheran High Northeast had two wrestlers in competition.
Wakefield: Mitchell Fischer (170) finished third, Kolton Fischer (132) took fourth while Franco Tapia (138) and Christopher Ochoa (195) both placed fifth as Ronnie Ramirez (152) and Bradley Haglund (182) both finished seventh.
Hartington Cedar Catholic as led by a pair of runner-up finishes from Kerby Hochstein (138) and Conner Hochstein (152) while Keegan Carl (106), Tavious Pinkelman (120), Cole Steffensen (132) and Kyle Lemme (182) all placed third. Korth Kale (160) took fifth.
Pender had an individual champion from Layne Sturek (106) while Andrew Duncan (195) came in second. Matthew Ferris (113), Chase Hofmeister (138), Brian Robertson (145) and Colton Sanderson (220) all finished fourth; Jacob Bruns (182) took fifth and Zachery Randall (152) placed sixth.
The Wakefield wrestlers will next visit Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Monday, December 14 for a road dual. Weigh-ins will begin at 6 p.m. with the match starting around 7 p.m. The Trojans will also compete in the Osmond Tournament on Saturday, December 19 to close out their early season schedule.
