Slow Start For Wayne Post 43 Seniors, Make Up With 10-Run Game

WAYNE – A northeast Nebraska American Legion baseball game was held Friday evening featuring Wayne Post 43 and Wakefield Post 81.

From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Post 43 played host to Wakefield during a Seniors only contest.

Wakefield took advantage with an early base-loaded walk to bring in a run during the first inning. Following a scoreless home half for Wayne in the first, runs started to come in. Post 43 scored two runs in the second, three runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to run-rule Wakefield, 10-1. With the win Wayne Post 43 improves to 5-1 on the season as Wakefield Post 81 is now 1-5.

Adam Bentjen recorded a single, double and three RBI followed by a pair of singles from Tyler Lutt to pace Wayne at the plate. Brennen O’Reilly drove in two runs off a double as Zane Jackson and Beau Bower tacked on singles.

Bentjen picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing an earned run off of one hit while striking out five batters and walking three.

Wakefield was limited to just one hit from Ben Klein being a single and run scored as Noah Lamprecht accounted for an RBI.

Julio Sanchez suffered the loss in three innings allowing five runs (one earned) off of three hits while striking out three batters and walking one. Seth Nuernberger worked an inning allowing five runs (three earned) off of four hits.

Wayne Post 43 is scheduled to host Lincoln Parkview Christian on Saturday, June 2. Juniors action will get under at 2 p.m. with the Seniors to follow at. The Wakefield Post 81 Seniors will make-up a game on Sunday, June 3 with Logan View coming to Eaton Field at 3 p.m.
