Six-Game Losing Slide Continues For Wayne Post 43 Seniors At The Hands Of Central

WAYNE – After postponing a game from Friday to Monday due to rain, the Wayne Post 43 Seniors played host to Omaha Central during a non-league double header.

Played at Hank Overin Field in Wayne, Central took the lead with a run in the first inning before Wayne answered with a two-run third inning. The final three innings are where most of the run production came from. Omaha Central outscored Wayne 3-2 in the fifth and 4-2 in the sixth to lead 8-6. Both teams then scored two runs each in the seventh for the final to favor Omaha Central, 10-8.

Justin Dean recorded a single, double, triple and three RBI as Zane Jackson singled, doubled and drove in a run for Wayne at the plate. Tyler Lutt and Tucker Nichols both singled twice and drove in a run; Payten Gamble singled and drove in a run as Adam Bentjen and Ryan Jaixen both singled.

Gamble suffered the loss in an inning and two-thirds allowing six runs (four earned) off of six hits while walking one batter. Lutt started the opening four and two-thirds allowing four runs (one earned) off of five hits while striking out and walking two batters each. Ryan Jaixen threw three pitches to record the final two outs.

In the second contest, Wayne started off strong with a three-run first inning and another run in the second to lead 4-0. But, Omaha Central came storming back with two runs in the third, one in the fourth, five in the fifth and outscored Wayne 3-1 in the seventh. Final saw Omaha Central win 11-5 and with the sweep Wayne has now dropped six straight games to sit 12-9 on the season. Wayne’s last victory came in Ralph Bishop League regular season play on June 15 over Laurel (8-0).

Mason Lee singled twice as Gamble added a single, double and RBI for Post 43. Brennan O’Reilly and Nichols both singled.

Bentjen suffered the loss in five innings allowing eight earned runs off of nine hits while striking out four batters and walking three. Lee worked an inning and a third allowing two earned runs off of two hits while striking out and walking one batter each. Beau Bowers closed out the final two-thirds allowing an earned run off of two hits.

The Wayne Post 43 Seniors will close out their regular season on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when Norfolk comes to town. Norfolk defeated Wayne 13-2 in Norfolk on July 3.
